About
Built by a reader, for readers of very long stories.
StoryCodex is a novel and web novel reader for Android and iOS with a private, spoiler-safe story memory: character profiles, relationship maps, timelines, chapter summaries, and offline neural narration that only know as much of the story as you do.
Who builds it
ForgeApps, an independent developer.
StoryCodex is designed, built, and maintained by ForgeApps, an independent developer working on the app for Android first, with the iOS version developed alongside it. There is no publisher, no venture roadmap, and no growth team optimizing for engagement metrics. Just a product shaped by actually reading long serials.
Development is public where it can be. You can find the developer on GitHub, and every guide on this site is written against the real app, not a marketing mockup.
Why it exists
Long stories outgrew human memory, and wikis spoil everything.
Web serials on Royal Road and Wuxiaworld run for thousands of chapters. Epic fantasy sagas sprawl across a dozen volumes. At that length, every reader hits the same wall: a name returns after 400 chapters and you cannot place it.
The usual answers are bad ones. Fan wikis summarize the whole series, including its ending. Forum threads are spoiler minefields. Re-reading costs weeks. StoryCodex exists because the right answer is simpler: an app that remembers the story only up to where you are, on your own device, so looking something up can never spoil what comes next.
Principles
The rules the product is built around.
Local-first
Your library, reading progress, Codex entries, and generated summaries are stored on your device by default. Optional Google Drive backup uses only the private app data folder, and optional StoryCodex Cloud credits exist for hosted AI, nothing more.
Spoiler-bounded
Every Codex entry, relationship edge, and summary is grounded in the chapters you have actually reached. The app never answers a memory question with knowledge from a chapter you have not read.
No account
You can download StoryCodex and build a full library without creating an account, handing over an email, or agreeing to feed a recommendation engine.
Honest scope
When something needs a network, the app says so: importing new chapters, downloading voices, or using hosted analysis. Everything already on the device works offline, for good.
Get in touch
Feedback shapes the app.
Bug reports, extractor requests, and feature ideas all land in the same place, and they genuinely change the roadmap.
