Discover free books, a library-wide Codex Hub, and inline Codex capture

Browse public domain classics in the new Discover tab, manage every Codex card in one hub, and send any selected phrase to the Codex while you read.

StoryCodex 1.8 grows three parts of the reading loop: finding something new to read, keeping track of a long story, and capturing what matters the moment you see it. It also lands the biggest tablet layout pass yet and a long list of fixes.

Discover free books

The new Discover tab puts public domain classics one tap away, powered by Project Gutenberg. Start reading straight from the catalog without hunting down files or source sites first.

Codex Hub

Your Codex summaries now live in one place: shelves that group cards across books, a digest feed of recent additions, and search that spans your whole library. It is the fastest way to answer "who was that again?" mid-chapter.

Add to Codex (Beta)

Select any name or phrase while reading and send it to the Codex. Link it to an existing entry, refresh one, or create a brand new card, all without leaving the page.

A redesigned tablet layout

Tablets and foldables get unified tab headers, a proper settings rail, and detail panes that default to the first listed item instead of an empty placeholder. Foldables drop the extra detail rail on Home and Discover, and list rows go two-up where space allows.

Reader and narration

In this release

  • Immersive chrome auto-hides while you read, with a larger mode pill on tablets
  • The mini player scrubber is grabbable and snaps to the right position
  • Missing voice engines can be downloaded in place from the prompt sheet
  • Codex journey maps gain four new sprites
  • Larger bottom bar icons on phones

Fixes and improvements

Bug fixes

  • Reading progress now carries across source switches instead of resetting
  • Playback stops when you switch voice engines in settings and restarts correctly on voice change
  • Fixed the notification small icon so it fills and scales properly
  • The misleading "Sync now" button is now called "Back up now", with a busy spinner while it runs
  • Resolved a batch of stability issues across cloud sync, settings, and the codex hub
  • Cleaned up session tombstones, codex residuals, and highlight wrapping on hard line breaks
  • BYOK endpoints are now HTTPS-only
