Chapter Summaries on Demand: Never Get Lost in a Long Chapter

How the chapter summary tool works, how long chapters are handled, and how to choose between on-device analysis and StoryCodex Cloud.

Long chapters have a way of swallowing context. You read for twenty minutes, get interrupted, and return to a page where you no longer remember what the chapter was even doing. The chapter summary tool exists for exactly that moment.

Get a summary in three taps

  1. 1

    Open the chapter menu

While reading, open the chapter menu at the top of the reader.

  2. 2

    Tap Chapter Summary

StoryCodex analyzes the chapter and returns a tl;dr plus a Key events list.

  3. 3

    Read or share it

The summary is yours: skim it, and it is also rolled into your Codex Timeline and future recaps automatically.

Questions readers ask about summaries

What if I skip a chapter?

Summaries are ordered. If you request a summary for chapter 40 while chapter 39 has not been summarized, StoryCodex warns you before analyzing, because an out of order summary would break story logic.

What about very long chapters?

Chapters above a certain size are split into sections and analyzed piece by piece, with per section progress shown. You can pause, resume, or abort a run at any time.

Does it run on my phone or in the cloud?

Both can be available depending on your companion setup. When an on-device path is enabled it is private and can work offline; StoryCodex Cloud is the optional faster path and costs a small number of credits.

How much does cloud analysis cost?

One credit per 50,000 characters of chapter text, capped at four credits for a single job. The sheet always shows the estimated cost before you start, there is no subscription and no API key.

Summaries are not a dead end. They feed the Codex Timeline, the previously on recap, and the story insights in your reading stats, so every chapter you summarize makes the rest of your story memory more accurate.

Coming back to a novel after months away? Multi-select the chapters you missed in the chapter list, tap Analyze, and let StoryCodex summarize the whole backlog in the background while you read ahead.
